Cosmic Rehab is the first documentary film about the evolution of consciousness from a female perspective and is scheduled to begin production with Golden Elixir Productions LLC in Spring 2008.
Cosmic Rehab offers a glimpse into the lives of four Western women who are pushing the envelope to attain the ultimate potential of consciousness evolution (enlightenment) through an intensive study in the ancient Chinese spiritual practice of qigong (pronounced chee gong) with Master Liu He in Portland, Oregon. Master Liu He is an enlightened qigong master who was born in China and learned qigong from her grandfather who treated the last emperor of China. Master Liu He explains, “Qigong is as large as nature, mysterious and full of surprises.” Qigong is a modern term used to describe practices that work with energy through movement, breathing techniques and meditation to improve the quality of life with the ultimate goal of spiritual immortality and enlightenment (this is called the Golden Embryo). In tantric Buddhism the highest level of spiritual evolution is called the Rainbow Body.
The Chinese ancients, Taoists and Buddhists asked the questions that people have asked through time — How can we improve the length and quality of life? What is the real Tao? In seeking answers, they investigated the cycles of nature and found ways to live in harmony with nature’s rhythms and enjoy the power and strength of that harmony.
Through intensive qigong study and the qigong retreat, the four students will learn forms (movement series) that help to quiet the mind, join the breath with movement, and join the body with the mind, so that the body can open to the energy of the universe. These forms are said to bring healing energy, alleviate suffering, fortify energy, calm the heart and help the spirit attain wisdom. In addition to forms, the students will learn the history of qigong and the basic theories of Chinese medicine — Yin/Yang theory and Five Element Theory — as well as the organ systems, the important meridians, pathways for Qi, significant acupoints and important philosophical ideas that are fundamental to recovering and protecting good health. Finally, the students will learn to gather and store Qi, to create reserves that protect us when life becomes challenging. Students may learn to guide Qi and release blockages.
This is a new way of thinking about the classical story line about seeking and finding the Philosopher’s Stone, Holy Grail or “elixir of immortality”. The idea is that the “Holy Grail” or secret to immortality is within each of us, accessible through dedicated spiritual practice. The film will explore the following questions: What is true enlightenment? How does one achieve it? What is the role of the teacher and lineage? What is the physical anatomy of enlightenment (Chinese meridian system)? What are the physical and mental health benefits of Eastern spiritual practice? What role does sex play in enlightenment theory? How does spiritual practice help us cope with unbearable suffering and death? If you achieve enlightenment, what happens when you die?
The film will educate the viewer about Eastern philosophies and religions, but will not attempt to proselytize. The viewer will be left to make up their own mind on whether spiritual practice is a worthy endeavor.
